Wed. Wisdom: Peace Piece

They say a picture is worth 1,000 words, so how many words are a piece of music worth? 10,000?

Music has a way of speaking directly to our soul. And soothing it.

Below is a soft piano piece I turn to when I’m stressed. It conjures up a quiet winter evening, maybe strolling under the snowflakes in New York’s Central Park, or sitting by a gentle fire in a cosy cabin.

Feel free to picture a beautiful, comfortable scene as you listen to this 7 minute piece - and then it becomes an enjoyable, rejuvenating meditation.

Music for Peace

Piece Peace by Bill Evans was an improvisation that thankfully got recorded. You can hear the calm.

And if you want something more upbeat, check out Reborn by Kids See Ghosts. Listen for the insightful and inspiring lyrics. “Keep moving forward” and “Peace is something that starts with me . . .”

Finally, if you want to be old-fashioned and listen to an entire album, this is one that brings me peace. I especially love to listen to it in winter or on grey days.

Your reflection question of the week is just to listen to one of these pieces of music or another one you find soothing, and really listen.

No multitasking, just listen.

Thanks for choosing peace today!

Thank you to the First Nations of what is now called Western Montana: the Bitterroot Séliš (Salish), the Ql̓ispé (Kalispel), and the Ksanka (Kootenai) - you can read more about all 3 nations on their website.

I also want to give thanks to the Amskapi Piikani (Blackfeet) and the Apsáalooke (Crow) First Nations because I’ve been to and enjoyed their traditional homelands in recent years. Many thanks for your hospitality.
